When should I reserve my date?
We are grateful to all the customers that trust us with their orders, we recognize that you have a choice of specialty cake vendors. But our reputation does mean that most weekends from April-November, due to weddings and other events, we are fully booked. Since we typically have a limit of six orders per week, we encourage you to confirm your date as soon as you are certain you would like us to create the cake for your event.
Do you require a deposit for the cake?
A deposit of 50% is due at time of order placement. We work on a first come first served basis, so if you decide to hold off on a booking, it is most likely that another customer will reserve that date. We cannot block out your date without a deposit, as that would mean we would be turning away other customers who are anxious for us to create their cake and willing to commit to us.
Now that we accept credit cards (Discover, Mastercard and Visa) we are happy to set up an installment payment plan to help you manage your event planning and budget. We do NOT accept AMEX.
Can I pay you when you deliver the cake?
All our costs and time are incurred prior to delivery, for that reason we ask for payment in advance and do not accept payment by check, if your event is less than 2 weeks away. The fact that we now offer Venmo or Zelle, as well as credit card payments should make it easier for you to manage your order, and earn some air miles too?
Can you replicate a cake I have seen elsewhere?
We aim to create unique cakes for your event, however should you want us to replicate a cake seen elsewhere, we can do that subject to any copyright and creative commons restrictions. Cake Fiction is happy to have it’s designs replicated, providing we are attributed as the original design.
What if my venue asks for a copy of your insurance certificate?
Of course! Many of the venues where we deliver insist that the customer present a certificate of insurance to prove your cake decorator is a legally sanctioned catering establishment. In order to create and sell cakes in New Jersey, every cake decorator, baker or caterer must operate from an establishment that is fully inspected, licensed, insured and of course registered with the State of New Jersey for sales tax purposes. Additionally I am a fully trained professional Chef and ServSafe Instructor for the New Jersey Food Manager exam. Who will you trust to create a perfect wedding cake for your once-in-a-lifetime event? We often laugh about it, but you know what they say “there is always someone who will do it cheaper”!
What is your cancellation policy?
A deposit of 50% is due at time of order placement. We ask for the balance to be paid in full two weeks in advance of delivery or pickup date. Cake Fiction will make every attempt to contact the client in the event of a missed pickup date or denied delivery. If a cancellation is made less than two weeks prior, the balance is due in full. No changes can be made to invoices less than two weeks prior to delivery date. Any modifications or changes to delivery/setup must be confirmed no later than two weeks prior to event.
In the event of cancellation:
What if I request a refund?
By signing the Cake Order form (which will be provided to the customer when ordering), the customer has agreed to color, design(s) and flavor upon placement of the order. The customer also agrees that upon final payment and pickup or delivery of the order, that they accept the product “as is” and no refunds will be issued.
The following 2 scenarios are the only instances when we may provide a partial refund:
We do not give refunds under any other circumstances. Refunds are given within 21 days (Refund is given minus 40% restocking fee.)
But what if I don’t like the way my cake tastes?
Typically our customers are referred to us because of the reputation of our cake. We encourage customers to arrange a cake tasting in advance, so be sure to pick the cake flavor and filling that suits your palate. Some of our cake recipes are drier and others are moist, be sure to tells us what do you prefer?
Refunds requested due to flavor or texture after the cake has been accepted and picked up or delivered cannot be offered. You may qualify for a store credit if the product is brought back to us and the quality of the cake flavor or texture is determined not to meet our standards. Quality determination is solely at the discretion of Cake Fiction.
Keep in mind variety in temperature and humidity may impact the flavor, overall design, or texture of the cake to some degree. Please understand we cannot control changes in texture or changes in color or shape due to weather conditions. Once we have delivered a cake to a venue and completed setup, we cannot be responsible for any accidental damage by staff there. We recommend that cakes are not refrigerated, they are best at room temperature, and that is why we ask to have a place prepared for them at the agreed delivery time. However, we have never had such an incident and we are confident you will be delighted with the cake you ordered from Cake Fiction.
